State Fours wins to Barooga & Finley

The finals of the Murray playing area State Fours were played on the newly laid synthetic turf at Barooga Sports Bowls Club.

The Barooga ladies of Fran Thatcher, Liz Ewing, Ruth Burnett and Cheryl Merrett were too good on the day for the Numurkah Golf & Bowls team of Maree Luci, Jenny Connelly, Robyn Hodgkin and Lidija Patching. The final score a convincing 18-8 win to Barooga.

In the semi-finals held that morning Barooga had defeated Judy Harvie’s Tocumwal Golf & Bowls team 18-8 and Numurkah Golf had defeated Marj McDonald’s Cobram team 22-5.

In the Mens final the Finley team of Andrew Hill, Jason Finnerty, Tony Turner and Ashleigh Haines were victorious over the Numurkah Golf & Bowls team of Phillip Thorne of Katandra West who was substituting for Jack Dell, Keith Holland, Rob Glover and Brian Stanger. The final score was 16-10.

The men’s semi-finals saw Finley defeat Ray Hill’s Wunghnu team in a close 17-16, and Numurkah Golf defeated another Wunghnu team skipped by Peter Revel 14-6.
