60 & Over Singles

The 60 & Over events held by the Murray Playing Area are no longer state events, as Bowls Vic have changed to a state wide carnival to be held at Barham in May.

The smaller than usual field played for the title of singles champion at Finley on Saturday, and due to Region commitments by some players, at Strathmerton on Sunday.

In the ladies event Jenny Warfe of Cobram completed a very good week by defeating Leigh Hansen of Tocumwal Golf & Bowls 21/12.

In the semi-finals Leigh had defeated Robyn Hodgkin of Numurkah Golf & Bowls 21/17, and Jenny had defeated Cheryl Mears of Tocumwal Golf & Bowls 21/8.

The men’s event saw Merv Hannaford of Katandra West defeat Tony Turner of Finley 21/14. In the semi finals Merv had defeated Rod Brown of Tocumwal Golf & Bowls 21/16, while Tony had defeated Ian Smethurst of Barooga Sports 21/17.
