Goulburn Murray Pennant Championships

There were mixed results for the Murray Playing Area teams in the Goulburn Murray Pennant Championships which were played this week.

On Tuesday the Midweek Division 1 winners, Cobram, took on the Goulburn Valley team of Shepparton Golf at the Cobram Bowling Club. Cobram came out of the blocks running, and didn’t falter all day to record wins on all three rinks. The final score was Cobram 72 shots to Shepparton Golf 39 shots.

Unfortunately Katandra West, the Murray Weekend Division 1 winners, were unable to continue the theme when they met the Goulburn Valley winners, Tallygaroopna, at Numurkah Bowls Club on Wednesday evening. After a close tussle all night, Peter Lawer’s rink did their job by defeating the rink of Mark Ryan. The other two rinks, although competitive were outplayed by Tallygaroopna. The final score was Tallygaroopna 83 shots to Katandra West 44 shots.

Both Cobram and Tallygaroopna will now play in the State Pennant Championships to be held at Moama from 4 – 7 May 2024. This competition is played as sectional play of 15 timed ends.
