Mixed Success for Murray at Region State Finals

The first day of the Goulburn Murray Region State Finals saw mixed success for the Murray Playing Area representatives.

Murray came out winners in all the individual events, but only one of the teams, the Men’s triples, managed to better the Goulburn Valley teams.

In the Women’s State Singles Kerry Baldacchino of Cobram dug in and fought back well to came from behind to defeat Kate Bush from Shepparton Park 25/20.

In the afternoon games Katrina Glover from Numurkah Golf & Bowls played a wonderful game of draw bowls to defeat Carla Miles of Shepparton Golf 25/10 in the Women’s Champion of Champion Singles.

An exciting high quality match was played in the Men’s State Singles between Mark Jones of Numurkah Golf & Bowls and Mitch Sidebottom from Tallygaroopna. Mark finally prevailed by one shot, with a final score of 25/24.

Another very close match was played between Katandra West and Tallygaroopna in the Men’s State Triples. This match was also decided by one shot, with the Katandra West team of Greg Barr, Warren Snow and Peter Lawer coming out the victors 20/19.

All the winners will now compete against the winners from the other 15 Victorian regions in the State Championships, which are to be held at East Bendigo Bowling Club from Saturday 13 April to Sunday 21 April 2024.
