Goulburn Murray Regional State Finals
The Goulburn Murray Regional State Finals were played last weekend at Shepparton Park. The State Event winners from the Murray and Goulburn Valley playing areas played each other for the honour of representing the region in the State Championships, which are to be played at East Bendigo Bowling Club over the week of 3 – 11 April.
Murray had quite a successful day on the Saturday, but were unable to repeat the results on Sunday. The weather was challenging, with the heat forcing Saturday afternoon’s games to be played undercover on the carpet, and Sunday’s rain doing likewise for the afternoon games. We are fortunate to have a venue which enables us to complete matches when mother nature is less than kind.
Congratulations to all players who competed in the finals. There were some very close games which could have gone either way. The Murray winners over the weekend were the Mixed Pairs, Ladies Pairs, Men’s Pairs and Men’s Fours.
In the Mixed Pairs Rob and Katrina Glover from Numurkah Golf & Bowls Club defeated Kerri Leask and Brian Hogg 14/10.
Lidija Patching and Maree Luci, also from Numurkah Golf & Bowls Club, had a tight battle with Kerri Leask and Terrie Crozier of Shepparton Park, coming home on the last end to win 12/10.

The Men’s Pairs saw John McKenzie and substitute player Josh Cartwright, both from Wunghnu Bowls Club, outplay Charlie Boswood and Brent Reiner to win 18/12.

The Mens’ Fours was a combination team between Berrigan Community Bowling Club and Numurkah Golf & Bowls Club. The Numurkah Golf players were Dane Gade & Geoff Sutcliffe (who was substituting for Paul Glanvill of Berrigan), and Berrigan was represented by Rick Bradbury and Jason Milich. They played the Tallygaroopna team skipped by David Dawes and the see-sawing match was close throughout, with the score at 11 all after 13 ends. The Murray team were able to pick up single shots on the last two ends to win 13/11.
